Tired of swimming upstream?

Tired of swimming upstream?

It took me a long time to realize that a lot of what I was busy doing every day was fighting myself.

  •  My natural wavy hair came out of my head soft and shiny, yet I was heat styling, damaging it, and then not being happy that my hair was frizzy.
  •  I didn’t know what colors went naturally well with my coloring, so I was wearing bright colors that required a lot of makeup to balance out, and then it still looked overdone and contrived.
  •  Every month I felt compelled to color my grays, dealing with the mess and smell of chemicals and still ending up not exactly happy with my brown hair and not understanding why.
  •  I was working late to get ahead instead of taking time to get out in nature, because I was confusing my Blah-ness with “not getting enough done”.
  • I was snacking all the time because of the endless news articles about PROTEIN, BLOOD SUGAR, CRASHES! And all I got was bloating and stray nuts at the bottom of my purse.

The list is probably much longer but you get the point.

One day, I realized I was trying to swim upstream. I was battling myself and the way my body and my genetics were trying to express themselves. I was trying to fit into a mold of someone else’s life and looks.

It can be hard to come to a place where you can love your uniqueness and work with it, but once you decide to begin to love it, you can turn around in that stream and start to flow. Life becomes easier, you get time back in your day, and you can focus that energy on doing the things that you do love. You might have some wavy grays up front while you do these things or maybe you wear soft brown instead of bright red, and it turns out that’s not so bad after all, in fact: you come alive. Your body knows how to be itself. Try loving yourself more the way you came out of the box, babies. Life can begin to love you back.

Love this! I am about 8 months in to transitioning to my natural hair color (salt and pepper) after being blonde my whole adult life (I am 59). I have lived in Southern California for the last 35 years and always felt I needed to look a certain way. No more. I am on a journey to discover who I really am and embrace that. Love your videos! (I have recently discovered shopping thrift stores and resale shops and your videos have inspired! TY!)

I’ve been loving your YouTube videos. So lovely and informing after scrolling through people waving their hands around talking and talking. You put outfits together and it makes me stop the video and grab a silk scarf. Your voice is pleasant and you make me laugh.

Thank you Diana, it’s as if you were listening to me today beating myself up for all the snacking I did. Great insight! Just what I needed to hear. Love your channel xx
