Bored with your closet and want to dress more fun? Did you ever love the fabric of your pajama shirt so much you wish you could wear it outside but thought that would be weird?ย  Did you ever put an item that you loved back on the shelf because the tag read a size that didn’t seem like it was for you? Ever wished you could try wearing hats or scarves but worry what people will think you’re up to? Here are 3 ways to get past your fears so you can start wearing whatever you want.

Weird or wonderful? Only you decide.

#1 Ignore the Tag

Cheesy vintage clothing tag
Ooooh... classy

It doesnโ€™t matter what the size says on the tag, how does it really fit? That brand might run really large or very small. If it looks like it might fit, try it on and maybe youโ€™ll be surprised. You might even find that a size much larger than you usually wear creates a nice oversized, drapey look.ย  Just try it on. If it’s just that you don’t like what size it reads, realize that no one will ever see it but you, then chop it out. Problem solved.ย

Is it an “uncool” brand but it somehow looks good anyhow? It’s time to realize you’re being a Judgey McJudger and stop the madness. Tags and brands can never dictate coolness or style. That comes from good fabric and interesting design. Just let it be good!ย

#2 Ignore itโ€™s purpose

Maternity dress, schmaternity dress. If you like it, wear what you want.

If you love the item but it doesnโ€™t feel appropriate to your destination, find a way to incorporate other items to change the vibe. You can dress up jeans with a chiffon blouse and sleek shoes. You can dress down a silky gown with a chunky sweater over it and some laced up boots. Use your creativity to rethink how you might wear it.

#3 Ignore what others thinkย

โ€ฆbecause guess what? Theyโ€™re most likely not thinking about you anyway. And usually if you dare to wear something different from everyone else, theyโ€™re actually admiring your moxie. They might not say anything. They might stare, but they are probably thinking, โ€œI wish I had the guts to try that.โ€ I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked out the door in something kind of wild and people say that exact thing to me. They wish they could. So what’s stopping you? The only person that matters in your outfit equation is YOU. Are you comfortable with your choice? Keep doing it. Eventually some onlooker is going to get the courage to tell you, โ€œI wish I could wear something like that.โ€ย Soon, you’ll realize life is too short to wonder what others are thinking about you. Enjoy your creations. Thatโ€™s all that matters, my loves. Go forth. Be bold. Don’t give a single fig.
